Two Days in York, ME

We’re currently hanging out in Maine because I have a work assignment in glamorous Lewiston. That means when we get the itch to explore, we’re on a tight time budget. So, we booked a quick 2-night escape to York, ME — and lucky us, we timed it perfectly. We rolled in with the sunshine, which, if you’ve ever experienced a New England spring you know sunny weather is rare.
We checked into the Beach Surf Club, a newly renovated, pet-friendly spot right across the road from the beach. Think surf-chic meets cozy coastal vibes. Bob even got his own welcome bag filled with treats and toys — 10/10, would spoil him again.
Once Bob was settled and probably plotting how to scam more treats, we strolled down the road in search of seafood — because when in Maine, you eat lobstah. We landed at Lobster Cove, which had everything I wanted: beach views and a whole ass lobstah. They did not disappoint. Brad went for the classic lobstah roll. Honestly, since arriving in Maine, I think we’ve had lobster every week... and I have zero regrets.
After dinner, we hopped in the car to find a market because, plot twist: the hotel had no coffee in the room. Yikes. There is an adorable coffee shop on-site — super cute and painfully convenient (read: we spent way too much money there). While driving around on our impromptu caffeine hunt, we ended up at Nubble Lighthouseright at sunset. Total happy accident — it looked like a postcard. Highly recommend.
The next morning, while Brad worked, I took myself on a solo tourist run. I headed for the Cliff Walk, which was technically closed due to storm damage. But a local walking his dog gave me the ok, “It’s fine, just be careful.” So I channeled my inner mountain goat and ran it anyway. From there, I followed the path to Fisherman’s Walk and then to Wiggly Bridge — the world’s smallest suspension bridge. Tiny, wiggly, and adorable. Running new places while sightseeing is my love language. It’s the chef’s kiss of travel.
Brad took a lunch break and we hit up Moose Burger — hands down the best burger I’ve had in a while. Burgers, hot dogs, shakes… all the good stuff. After that, we paid our respects to the The Witch's Grave, because obviously. Gotta honor your witch ancestors. Back at the hotel, I took Bob down to a small stretch of beach right across the street. It’s super protected at low tide, which was perfect for our little guy. It’s a bit more challenging for him now since he can’t see or hear, but this beach was calm and quiet — perfect for a retired beach bum.
Dinner was at When Pigs Fly Pizza — a bustling spot, and for good reason. The pizza was great and they had NA beer on tap. Like, good NA beer. Naturally, we followed up with ice cream at Dunne's a charming little window with picnic tables and lighthouse views. A solid ending to our spring beach getaway. On the drive back to Lewiston, we listened to a spooky podcast about a lighthouse six miles offshore of York, complete with a creepy backstory involving shipwrecks, hauntings, and yes — cannibalism. You know, classic Maine stuff.
